Green Week - April 18-22, 2022

Green Week is a great opportunity to teach students the actions they can take to ensure a healthy and sustainable future. Twain PTSA invites students and families to celebrate with different themes throughout Green Week on April 18-22!

We also need your help to make the following plans a success! Check out our Green Week Volunteer Opportunities.

all week: walk, roll, or bus to school

When: April 18 - 22

Help Twain go green (and have less congestion in the traffic circle), by walking, biking, or busing to school during Green Week.

Raffle tickets will be handed out each day to those taking an Earth/traffic-friendly mode of transportation. Earth-friendly prizes will be raffled off at the end of the week!

Meatless Monday

When: Monday, April 18, ALL DAY

Twain goes meatless! Enjoy vegetarian options provided by the cafeteria today at school.

Not sure what to cook at home? Plantiful Superfoods, a locally owned and family-run business, has you covered!

Dine in, order delivery, or take out from Plantiful Superfoods in the Kirkland Urban Plaza (located on the second floor above QFC), and they will donate 25% of their proceeds back to our Twain students AND a 10% discount off your order! Just mention "Twain" while dining in or by entering the code "Twain" for online orders at https://www.plantiful.us/

Can't make it to Plantiful on Monday? No problem! Plantiful is generously doing our dine-to-donate ALL WEEK, April 18-24th. After all, meatless meals are good for our bodies and the Earth any day of the week!

treat-from-a-tree tuesday

When: Tuesday, April 19, at school drop-off

Go bananas for Green Week and grab a banana during morning drop-off, generously provided by our new Kirkland PCC Community Market.

waste-less-wednesday

When: Wednesday, April 20, at school drop-off

Twain PTSA is partnering with Ridwell to do a Free Threads Pickup at the morning drop-off!

Please put your unwanted clothing and threads into a grocery size bag and drop them off at the Ridwell table in front of the school. Our Green Team will also be outside helping to collect your bags during drop off!

Limit 1 grocery bag size of threads per student.

Click on the flyers to the right and check out the links and QR codes to learn more about Threads, how much Mark Twain Elementary can keep out of the landfill when we all pitch in, and where things can go when you no longer want or need them!

When: Wednesday, April 20, 6:30-7:30pm

Do you have a stain, hole, or tear in your favorite t-shirt or stuffy? Turn them into something fresh and new!  Join us on April 20 at 6:30pm as Modern Mending teaches you how to mend, patch, and embroider your clothes so that they become even better than before!

Register for this new virtual event here.

Sewing techniques are easy enough for kids, but adult involvement is highly encouraged. Register early for a FREE MENDING KIT provided by the PTSA...while supplies last!

trash to treasure thursdaY

Due Date: Thursday, April 21

Get those creative juices flowing and turn your trash into a treasure!

Students are invited to create a piece of artwork at home, using items that would normally be recycled or thrown away. Our Green Team will be coming to classrooms to give you more details!

Projects can be turned in Monday - Thursday of Green Week, and will be put on display for all to enjoy.  We can't wait to see what your creative minds come up with!

farming friday

When: Friday, April 22 at school recess

Friday is for farming!  Find our planting station at recess to start your own edible, take-home garden.

These planted seeds can live on your window sill, or get transferred to an outdoor space once they get large enough. Growing your own food is fun, satisfying, and great for the planet!
